What is kaolin?

The word kaolin stems from the Chinese word 'kauling' (high hill) as a reference to the Jauchau Fu hill, in China, where kaolin has been mined out for many centuries. It is a white, non-inflammable, non-toxic, clayey mineral with no chemical reactivity. It is made up basically of kaolinite and is white in color due to low iron content.
